Composition Shingles For Residential Applications

Composition Roof

A composition roof or shingle roof is the most common roofing material used on residential homes. Manufacturer warranties on shingles range from 20 years to Lifetime. Shingle roofs are often made with additives to prevent algae and moss growth, UV degradation, and to improve resistance to cracking, splitting, and blistering. You can choose from a wide selection of styles and colors depending on your needs. Some composition shingles are energy efficient and may qualify as Energy Star rated products. Check with your roofing professional for more details on optimizing your home to be energy efficient. Some shingles now offer Class IV impact resistant ratings, the highest rating offered in roofing products to combat hail and other impacts. There are three types of composition shingles: 3-Tab (also called strip shingles), Laminates (also called architectural or dimensional), and Premiums.
